Seizing Your Divine Moment
We all have dreams. Why, then, do some of us realize our dreams and advance forward while others watch timidly from a distance and hope for a break? Author Erwin Raphael McManus believes there is a direct relationship between passion and initiative. But what about making sure that the things we do, and the dreams we dream, are truly God’s will? In Seizing Your Divine Moment: Dare to Live a Life of Adventure, McManus offers a liberating reality when we are passionate about God, we can trust our passions.
Using the biblical account of Israel’s war with the Philistines, McManus compares Saul with Jonathan to illustrate the tremendous impact possible in a life of purpose and adventure as opposed to a life of routine, apathy, and missed opportunities. Seizing Your Divine Moment will help you understand the potential of a small moment combined with personal courage. Such moments must not be missed. They are the place where destiny is shaped and divine life ripples outward. These moments are everywhere, though you can often fail to recognize them. You need a fearless, ready stance, believing that God wants to use you as a catalyst for change.
Learn to recognize your divine moment and lay hold of it with force. Put an end to passive observation, paralyzed by the need for perfect opportunity, and start seizing the raw, unshaped potential of your life with God.

“I wish I could say I couldn’t put Seizing Your Divine Moment down. The fact is, I had to put it down many times to think about what I had just read! It motivated me like no book I have read in years. I marked almost every page and found myself saying ‘yes’ out loud on several occasions. You owe it to yourself to ’seize the moment’ and read this book.”
- David Jeremiah - Senior Pastor, Shadow Mountain Community Church; President, Turning Point Radio.
“It’s easy to see an opportunity after it’s passed and to regret it. When I teach leadership, the most difficult questions I am asked often concern how to discern a divine moment. Erwin Raphael McManus provides the answer Don’t miss this book!”
John C. Maxwell - Founder, the INJOY Group (TM).
“Erwin Raphael McManus forcefully presents the fact that we know the regular and reliable presence of God’s kingdom in our lives only by acting for God. If we follow Jesus in this way, the glorious language of the Bible and the creeds will become our day-to-day reality not something we hope might be true.”
Dallas Willard - Professor of Philosophy, University of Southern California; Author of The Divine Conspiracy and Renovation of the Heart.
“Erwin Raphael McManus stands firmly on biblical principles in his life and leadership. He is practicing the life of adventure that Christ promises to those who seek to walk in His steps. Creative, dynamic, real life and not theory that is the heartbeat of one who walks on the cutting edge of faith.”
- Jim Henry - Senior Pastor, First Baptist Church of Orland; Former President, Southern Baptist Convention.
“Erwin McManus has penned a book of such magnitude it will be a catalyst for every believer’s faith. Don’t leave one page unread! My prayer is that each of us will be shell-shocked to the core by what Erwin has articulated in Seizing Your Divine Momement.”
- Wayne Cordeiro - Senior Pastor, New Hope Christian Fellowship, Oahu, Hawaii; Author of Attitudes that Attract Success.

Seizing transformed my Christian walk by shaking my shoulders and inspiring me to pro-action. I am reading it again … for the fourth time.

I loved the book. It helped me see where I am missing parts(if not all) of the life God intends me to have. I do have a question. I could not find The Perils of Ayden at the bookstore. How would I get a copy of that? Thanks.

The 2nd most inspiring book i’ve read! On my second read of it now. A definate read for for all those who wish to take a step forward and to keep going! I advise anyone who’s buying a copy to get two, 1 for you and 1 to lend, you wont want to part with it. Is there a primary source for the perils of ayden or were the extracts made for the book? Brilliant!

I have also been reading through this book and I really enjoy it, but I’ve also been looking for the Perils of Ayden and have not been able to find it. Wanted to know how to get it. Thanks.

In searching for the Perils of Ayden I found the short stories on his website - which leads me to believe they are not contained in a book. I would encourage Mr. McManus to compile them into a novel! If you like these short stories you will likely also enjoy The Singer Trilogy by Calvin Miller.

I just arrived at this website, searching for more informaion on the author whom I became aware of where I fellowship.
I must admit, I’m eager to read and press through my complacency.
By the way you could really use some “spellcheck”…..as we all could.

I am on page 75..had to put it down for a sec- but my heart won’t let it go. God has put something huge in my heart and I’m like Paul- clueless but with a dream. I “was” a sideliner- thanks so much for the encouragement to “Seize”…sounds like a clarion call to militance.
I would love to read Perils of Ayden (so compelling) and I also notice that you offer Courage to Live as a free download but I cannot find the website in the book. Could you please direct. Again, thank you so much for this awesome contibition to the faith!

Hi Jonnie,
The Courage to Live is no longer available as a download, however all of Erwin’s sermons are available as podcasts. Also, the Perils of Ayden is something that Erwin is hoping to complete in the future. Thanks!

i read this book, after I read Uprising, well actually, I wanted to read uprising again, but I lend it to a friend of mine and it was inside of the car and someone robbed it, anyways, In uprising, God teached me a lot of things in my life, but seizing your divine moment also teached me how to ge tin action, I want to hace the jhonathan factor, I want to be one of those, and wow the perils of ayden, I want to read it too. Well, and I also loved, when Erwin was talking about when he was teaching in this intership, and the trainees asked him, how can I get your job, and he answered, well I served the poor for more than ( i dont remember/) years, that was funny, and true, we want the best things come the easy ways, and our God doesnt work that way, to take you there He will take some other places so you can learn how to deal with future decitions, and God’s purpose is not to put you in hard situations to make fun of you, but to mold your character in a Christlike one. Blessings everyone

I got 1/3 way through, couldn’t finish it. The best part was the look at Jonathan’s courage. That did stir me up.

Seizing your divine moment is one of the most thrilling and life changing books I have ever read. Considering what the book says about sideliners and the fact that many times we want to wait when God’s command to us us really GO! It is time for an awakening in the body of christ. We need to begin to take initiatives and beat the challenges that confront us daily as Christians without thinking twice.

Half way through this book, have to put it down and make notes, it is so inspiring. My husband and I are taking turns with it inbetween everything else going on in our lives, but I have read further ahead because he has read the first two chapters six times over!
Can’t wait to finish it and start all over again.

[…] Erwin McManus says in Seizing Your Divine Moment, “The most spiritual activity you will engage in today is making choices. All the other activities that we describe as spiritual - worship, prayer, meditation - are there to connect us to God and prepare us to live. While moments are the context within which we live, choices chart the course and determine the destination.” […]

[…] Posted by uprising on March 11th, 2007 Tonight Randy talked to us about the “divine moments” (based on an Erwin McManus book), the moments in which we have a choice whether or not to take part in God’s adventure, that fill our days. He suggested that we often miss our chance to seize these moments because we’re either too busy or because we’re looking backward at our past (see Philippians 3:12-14). Randy went on to say that we would find more of God’s adventure in our journeys if we were to slow down and let go of the past, that sometimes we need to just do something. […]

Phantastic, I actually read it second time. A great help to reflect about own behaviers, fears. Also an enforcing of my will not to give up, but to step ahead! (In German it’s called: Living God’s Dreams)
The entries to “the Perils of Ayden” are very interessant. Is that a book? like/similar to John Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Journey?
Could you help we with this?

Thank you for being such an inspiration!!

I am another person who has noticed the many the many questions inquiring into “The Perils of Ayden”, and I myself have been wondering. I came here hoping to find an answer, but found none. Does anybody know?
February 27th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
Alisah, who is one of Erwin McManus’ assistants, says in an earlier post about “Perils of Ayden”:
“Also, the Perils of Ayden is something that Erwin is hoping to complete in the future. Thanks!”
It is certainly not a published book at this moment, but perhaps in the future…

I too have recently beeen stopped in my tracks by the Godly inspriation found in Chasing Daylight and Uprising. Impossible to ever be the same again. I await the publication of The perils of Ayden with bated breath. Thank you so much!
